VietNamNet Bridge – With a week to go for the Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays, the entertainment industry has announced a slew of promotions to attract audiences.
In HCM City, the hub of the industry, the two Galaxy cinemas have rolled out a lucky draw programme with gifts costing hundreds of millions of dong.
Winners stand to get a Piaggio LX125 scooter and luxury mobile phones made by Samsung, LG and Nokia.
They have also spent a lot of money on renovations to improve their looks.
The Galaxy Studios is set to release two new films, Khi Yeu Dung Quay Dau Lai (Another Chance for Love, Another Chance for Life) and Nhat Ky Bach Tuyet (The Diary of Snow White) in cinemas around the country.
Galaxy's biggest competitors in film production, Phuoc Sang Film and BHD Film, are also offering gifts and free tickets, particularly to young couples, since the start of Lunar New Year coincides with Valentine's Day on February 14 this year.
While Phuoc Sang's Cong Chua Teen va Ngu Ho Tuong (Teen Princess and Five Bodyguards) is a comedy, BHD Film's Nhung Nu Hon Ruc Ro (Beautiful Kisses) is a musical. Both feature dozens of pop stars, top models, and comedians.
Suoi Tien Tourist Park in District 9 has spent US$2 million on building the country's first 4D cinema complex, which is expected to draw children and their parents, mostly from rural areas.
The park has also built a 3,000sq.m open-air museum displaying objects related to Viet Nam's history and culture.
As usual the Youth Cultural House has worked with its partners to offer free cultural and educational events that have become very popular among students and workers from other provinces staying back in the city during Tet.
"We hope to bring people a Tet full of happiness and meaning," said singer Nguyen Thanh Thuy, who will perform in a music and dance show at the venue on Sunday.
A traditional food festival titled Le Hoi Que Toi (My Homeland's Festival) will be held every night at the Van Thanh Tourist Site in Binh Thanh District.
Some city hotels and restaurants will sell many traditional dishes at reasonable prices.
The festival will also display hundreds of flower pots and bonsais designed by growers in Da Lat and Buon Ma Thuot.
There will be free musical performances and traditional dragon dances.
